Contemporary Flamenco: Identidad

Ivelisse Gonzalez is a contemporary flamenco dancer from Havana, Cuba, who is developing the dichotomy between the traditional flamenco codes and the creative freedom of contemporary dance. She is widely known in the contemporary flamenco scene for her performances in 1|2|3 Festival, Días del Flamenco Festival, and Bazak Festival, with her own creations and collaborations such as Identidad, Del Tiempo, In Memory of the Olives, Ivelisse, and others…

About the performance: Identidad (15-20 min)

In a world in which the only permanent thing is change, can identity remain static, immutable, without any transformation ? Ivelisse Gonzalez & Pablo Ordas make us reflect through their performance “Identidad”, exposing and transforming a flamenco style identified as Cante de Ida y Vuelta, created by fusion of Cuban and Spanish Roots in the 18th century. This time they use it to interpret their unique version of their Identity as cuban-flamencos in the 21st century.

Music: Pablo Ordás Rodríguez
